The 7 Images That Every Branding Session Should Include
Here’s the thing about Brand Photography, every session is different and comes with it’s own goals and intentions. There isn’t a clear formula that works for every single brand. BUT… there are 7 types of images that I think every brand needs to work into their session with their Brand Photographer. And here they are…
1. A clean, crisp headshot
A more polished and formal pose than most of your session; shot from the chest or waist up. This image should look clear, confident and professional — perfect for LinkedIn or “About” pages.
2. Portraits to the camera
These show you in your environment, with personality and presence. You are posed, sometimes formally, sometimes casually. These are intentional images. You, looking directly into the camera, ready for business!
3. Action shots
You doing what you do: typing, taking a call, consulting, meeting a “client” (feel free to bring a model for these!), preparing a product, hosting a session… and anything else that shows you actively working in your brand.
4. Lifestyle images
These images create emotional connection. The “human” side of your brand: maybe you’re reading, just relaxing, walking down the street, sitting on your porch, working in a bright corner of your home. These are a great way to showcase your interests and personality. These images quite often draw potential clients with similar interests.
5. Behind-the-scenes
Your workspace, process, tools, or anything that demonstrates your expertise and credibility.
6. Detail shots
Show your work! Hands working, tools, products, packaging, artwork and any small touches that say a lot.
7. Negative Space
I love to make sure that you have content that works everywhere. I make sure that we shoot images with plenty of negative space for you to add in logos, text, upcoming promotions. As part of our planning session, I try to insist you have a plain white mug to add your logo onto (we don’t all have branded merch when we’re putting together our brands). I have clients bring a plain hoodie to add logos to. I often show up with a plain white foam core to pose with - you’d be amazed at how versatile these are when marketing your brand!
